HAPPY IN APRIL

sunshine-flower-fieldI woke up feeling invigorated and filled with desire to change the world for the better. I reviewed this thought over my organic lo-cal breakfast and concluded that, considering that the world is already changing for the better every second, for me to “change” sounds a little too presumptuous. Maybe just micro-adjust. Or at least not to get in the way.

My TV news program was chock-full of reasons to rejoice. Terrific-looking anchors and reporters told me that the world was getting greener and more comfortable to live in, and the people were leading increasingly rich and happy lives. Never before in history have people been so nice to one another, so cognizant of one another’s existence, so tolerant of one another’s tiny flaws. To sum it up, never has personkind been so dangerously close to paradise.

My social network reported to me that all my FB friends were getting new interesting jobs and enjoying their lives as never before. On the personal level, too, my wife has never looked or felt so good and filled with love as before. Our son kept bugging us all morning about extra chores he could do. His report card was filled with 100’s, and only yesterday four Ivy League schools had sent in offers of full scholarship.

I stepped outside for a morning walk. I held the door for an elderly lady with a dog who rewarded me with a radiant smile. The street was lit with sunshine, and there were quite a few parking spaces on the block.

(This report was filed with NY State Parole Division in keeping with the conditions of my parole.)
